The concept of a blockchain is credited to Nick Szabo who discussed it in 1994 and 1997. A block is a sequence of transactions in which the payer's transaction is linked to the payee's transaction, in the sense that the payer's public key becomes the payee's public key and vica versa. Transactions make up the block (or chain), and blocks form the blockchain. The blockchain is not a database that has been corrupted; it is a list of changes. Even if one data entry was altered in a blockchain, the database's integrity would not be compromised.
